Infinite Jonathans: The Card Game

During development on Infinite Jonathans, I assisted in landing a deal with AdMagic’s Breaking Games to adapt elements of the Jonathans IP into a physical card game, in the party genre.

My Role:

➜ Conceive and write the game’s stories, characters & events.

➜ Writing funny flavor text.

➜ Writing copy for pitch materials.

➜ Curating characters and events from the digital game to appear as cards.

➜ Work with the illustration team to achieve visual congruence between the digital & physical game.

➜ Iterate on early prototypes and testing.

A full-circle moment that never got old. When I first started my career as a writer, refining my skills and getting my first articles published - I did it all from a Barnes & Noble cafe.

Barnes & Noble on 86th and Lex (relocated to 87th & 3rd) was my safe space and library for pop literature. I’d read tons of manga and every comedians/indie icons’ essay collection - the Watskys and B.J. Novaks. I’d always say, "One day, my work will be displayed here and catch the eye of another kid starting their creative journey."

Seeing something I wrote on the shelves at Barnes & Noble, a real physical product in a box with characters I came up with and my name on it, was hands down one of the coolest feelings ever.

Example of an Infinite Jonathans card adapted from digital game’s story:

One of the story paths in Infinite Jonathans sees Jonathan become a stockbroker — this is how the arc appears in the mobile game:

The same moment from the stockbroker’ arc as a playing card:

The card game is marketed to a younger audience than the digital game, so a significant consideration in the curation process was selecting from the more family-friendly moments in the digital game and adjusting some of the captions and character names appropriately.
